From Silver wave to systems change
Many of us at Rubio are experiencing it firsthand: helping ageing parents navigate healthcare systems while juggling our own careers and families. Across Europe, the “silver wave” is no longer a future scenario, it’s our present reality.
By 2050, more than 30% of the EU’s population will be over 65, up from 21% today. Public spending on pensions, health and long-term care is projected to rise by 3-4% of GDP by 2070, while our healthcare systems are already short around 1.2 million doctors, nurses and midwives.
The human impact is just as striking: dementia cases in Europe are set to nearly double to 15.8 million by 2050. Setting up a diagnosis takes 2 years on average and more than 80% of home care today is provided by informal caregivers, often family members juggling jobs and responsibilities. This has a serious impact on their career and wellbeing as well. Every 5th informal caregiver even quit their job and 59% report depression and anxiety issues.
We can’t wait for systems to fix themselves. We need solutions now that actually improve people’s lives. That’s why we’re investing in Seed and Series A across Europe:
• Care-ops platforms that unify workflows, communications and care planning across fragmented services and stakeholders, improving productivity in an overstretched workforce
• Remote monitoring & independence tools that move care from reactive to proactive, reducing hospital admissions and helping people live safely at home longer
• Cognitive health & early detection tools that diagnose sooner and slow decline via digital therapy
• Caregiver support and education solutions that alleviate the invisible load through knowledge and emotional support
To find these founders who are building in AgeTech with measurable outcomes (e.g.; capacity unlocked, caregivers supported, costs reduced or volume increased in early detection), Ilonka Jankovich and Ata Şenkon are heading to AgeTechX in Berlin this week.
Are you or do you know founders tackling these challenges? Please send us your pitch deck through our website or let’s meet up in Berlin and explore how we can support your venture.
